Skiing out west you are guaranteed two seemingly contrary things - plenty of sunshine and plenty of snow.The mountains are huge, with peaks into the 12,000ft range, there are huge networks of trails (pistes), and queuing for the ski lift is virtually unheard of. The ski seasons out here are very long, and when the snow comes, it comes in huge 'dumps' often many feet deep.In Tahoe, they've recorded snowfall in every month of the year. Unlike Europe, it's never touch and go as to whether there'll be any skiing. Even in the unlikely event of no snowfall, the snow-making facilities are awesome.The beautiful Lake Tahoe straddles the states of California and the gambling-friendly Nevada, meaning that you can enjoy not just the apres-ski of the local bars and restaurants, but also the casinos.The mighty mountain of Mammoth is wholly in California, and has been a favourite with Bookable Holidays Skiers for many seasons. Great opportunities await, and all these resorts.While you are over in the western states of the USA, it would be a shame to go home having only sampled the winter sports. It's a great idea to combine your skiing with a few days in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco or even Hawaii.
